Departing favorite son takes home top award

Papua New Guinean import, Jay Mombu, took home two awards on Saturday, August 12, at the 2017 Central Florida Warriors Awards lunch. Jay had a great individual season in 2017, playing pivotal roles in several key positions throughout the year. He was presented with the award for Best Back along with the team MVP title. It was a special day for Mombu as it was announced sadly this was his final season with the Warriors after being a member of the squad since the club’s inception. Along with his awards, he was presented with jerseys from each of the four seasons in which played.

Other notable winners this season were Joshua Diaz who won the rookie of the year award after several stellar performances in his first season of Rugby League. Former UCF star footballer, Gage Marcil, took home the best forward award; a fantastic effort considering he was also playing his first year of football with the team.
